Quality Built for Better Living

TurkeyIf you are serving turkey for Thanksgiving and it’s frozen, you will need a day per every four pounds to thaw. In other words, if you have an 18-pound turkey it will take four and a half days to thaw. And if you plan to brine your bird, you will need one extra day.

Mashed PotatoesThe only thing worse than lumpy mashed potatoes, is cold, gluey ones. Use your slow cooker to keep your spuds warm, first butter your slow cooker insert, add a little heavy cream and spoon in the potatoes. Set the temp to low and stir every hour to keep your potatoes smooth and silky.

GravyThe secret to great gravy is skimmed – not greasy – pan drippings. If you don’t have a fat separator, pour your drippings into a large heatproof measuring cup and pop in the freezer. As the drippings begin to cool, the fat will rise to the top and solidify, making it easy to skim off with a spoon.

DessertsPie is a must, but it doesn’t have to be the only dessert on the table. Pack as many treats as possible into your Thanksgiving spread this year. Try mini treats like pumpkin pie cupcakes, apple crisp cookie cups and pecan pie bars. That way, you get a little taste of everything!
