With warmer weather on the way, now is an ideal time to focus on your lawn. From weed control and fertilizing to seeding and repairs, there are lots of things you can do right now to make sure your lawn is lush and healthy all year long.
1. Start by Prepping Your Lawn
That means check your lawn for any places that need repair and clean up any fallen leaves or branches. It’s also a good time to plan any additions like bushes of flower beds.
2. Apply Fertilizer & a Pre-Emergent
Then in a couple of months, reapply both. This is a great way to feed your lawn while preventing crabgrass coming in – if you get crabgrass, you’ll be fighting it all year.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Mow Twice a Week
You don’t want your grass to grow too high too quickly, and then cut it when it’s long. This stunts the growth of the roots. Instead, mow every five or six days to ensure a fuller, thicker lawn.
4. Dethatching Is NOT Your Friend
It was once thought that a deep de-thatching was necessary each year. Lawn care experts, however, now believe this causes more damage than good since it tears the roots of new grass plants.
